'Shock Absorber' for Knee Pain - UC Davis Among First to Place MISHA Implant for Osteoarthritis

UC Davis Health is among the first health systems in the nation to place the new MISHA implant, a new option for patients with knee pain from osteoarthritis that isn’t severe enough for knee replacement surgery. MISHA is a shock absorber made of metal and polymer. The metal parts attach to the femur and tibia, and the polymer in the middle works as a shock absorber. The implant was approved by the FDA in 2023. Surgeon Cassandra Lee performed the first MISHA procedure at UC Davis Health in December 2023. The recovery period for MISHA is significantly shorter than for other procedures.
