Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is an ischemic acute condition, also known as Eye Stroke, that occurs when the blood flow to the retina is suddenly cut off by a thrombus or other cause. Patients experience sudden and profound loss of vision in one eye, which causes immense mental and physical distress. Currently, there is no proven effective treatment for this condition. It is a rare disease in the United States, estimated to affect approximately 23,000 patients annually.
